Time Resolved Incoherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering

Our research is focused on measuring the lifetime of the vibrational modes and how they decay. To do this we use aTime-Resolved Incoherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (TRIARS) experiment. This involves creating some additional vibrational modes using a short laser pulse, the pump, and then probing how many of them remain at some time later by measureing the strength of the Raman scattering associated with the vibrational mode using a second short laser pulse, the probe. This is illustrated in the graphic below which shows the pump and probe laser pulses in time along with the Raman spectra measured relative to the spectrum when the pulses are far enough seperated that the vibrational modes have all decayed before the probe arrives.
